Just seen an ad for this:
Apocalypse TV
tomorrow night on UKtv documentary
includes
both
THREADS
and
THE WAR GAME
two of the most traumatic films ever made in Britain
Posted by mark at September 4, 2004 01:54 AM | TrackBackI can't remember The War Games firsthand (just those eye boiling voice-overs on 100 most nauseating TV moments) but Threads surely stayed with everyone that watched it. You forget that, as a kid, nuclear war seemed as real as terrorist attacks do now... we expected Global Annihilalation on a more or less month by month basis and it was only after the dissolution of the USSR (remember all those crappy looking tanks and rockets passing through Red SQuare on the way to the knackers yard? - probably McFittings by now) that people started to relax and let the kids play in the bunkers (thank God we never got to eat all that corned beef). I'd love to see it again to see if the air of utter hopelessness and paranoiac attack is still there; as a kid seeing those giant buildings being crushed by the nuclear winds uncovered so many deep-set sublimations spinning that I'm sure I remember kids wanting it to happen, just to know...
