K-PUNK IS ONE YEAR OLD!
And here's the first post to prove it...
Well, a year and a bit, actually, since I'm such a dope that I missed the actual anniversary...
Contrary to the plague of miserabilism that seems to have descended on blogdom (as identified by Robin), I know EXACTLY why I blog...
For much of the last year, especially when things got REALLY BAD, it's been my only connection to the world, my only outside line....
It's reinvigorated my enthusiasm for so many things, and pricked my enthusiasm for things I'd never previously considered.... (I say this especially to the currently disenchanted Marcello, who has done both; I remember being drawn out of a catatonic depression last year by reading through the entire Church of Me archives.)
It's made me many valued friends, both online and (thanks to Luke's brilliant walks) off too... Plus it's put me back in touch with friends I'd lost contact with. (Yeh, there's the occasional wanker, but I can honestly say, very few, almost none really, certainly there's far fewer of them than the excellent, high quality correspondents.)
In short, and no exaggeration, it's made life worth living...
I know it's an awful cliche, but it's really true, a blog is what you make it...
So heartfelt thanks to all of those who have contributed, by linking, commenting, reading or inspiring...
good on yer!
Posted by: freedom at May 17, 2004 08:23 PMMark, congratulations!
Strange. I also started my blog because of The Church Of Me, wich inspired me to start my own in a very difficult period of my life. Following links from The Church Of Me I discovered your blog, wich I've been reading regularly since then. Gracias.
Posted by: Diego at May 17, 2004 08:33 PMand that just about says it all...lovely post, Mark...happy anniversary, and many more!
Posted by: Rob at May 17, 2004 08:36 PMwell done!
k-punk, always a pleasure.
Posted by: scott at May 17, 2004 08:39 PMnice one - although I must say, because of the weird timestretching nature of blogging I had the vague impression that k-punk had been around for years and years.
I just hope that Lurker's anti-morrissey tirade doesn't precipitate a collapse of all this positivity now, and I wake up to a k-punk 'why do I bother, it's all over' post!
I totally agree with you that on balance, and compared with 99% of activities which you could get up to in this world, blogging is pretty damned fantastic: energising, motivating, effortlessly (if time-consumingly) enjoyable, and cheap too :)
I have the same impression about blogs that preceded this one; but you look at their first posts and they're often just a couple of months before k-p started!
I've no problem with Lurker's comment. It's all part of the rich tapestry, y'know...
Don't think there's much danger of any such post on k-p.... I might have moodswings in real life (to say the least), but they never concern blogging. Funnily enough, there are no 'I'm going to pack it all in' posts. It's only when I'm sick of life that I stop blogging.
Posted by: mark k-punk at May 17, 2004 10:44 PMHappy one-th birthday!
Consistently top class, Mr K-punk. Part of my daily webroutine now, really....:-) B
Baal, you, like Scott and many others, are of course what I meant by new online friends.... Always fantastic supporters. And consistently brilliant writing on Erase the World...
Posted by: mark k-punk at May 17, 2004 11:31 PMHey Mark, I also thought you'd been around for ages longer than that - you certainly seem to occupy a kind of 'King Blogg' role. And hey, it was your blog that made me think that it would be cool to have one too...cheers!
Posted by: infinite thought at May 17, 2004 11:50 PMNo way is it one year! It's more like 5!
Posted by: sean at May 18, 2004 12:03 AMcongrats mark...and many thanks

Posted by: Peter M at May 18, 2004 01:01 AMHappy birthday (can it be called birthday? Is a blog born, maybe blogday is better... I dunno). I, like everyone else it seems, thought you had been around forever. You must be one of the most linked to blogs that I've found. Glad that you haven't been caught up in the moroseness as well, it's a great blog.
Posted by: siobhan at May 18, 2004 01:09 AMhappy birthday mark!
k-punk was the first blog i became an avid reader of and it ROOLZ :-)
Posted by: pete at May 18, 2004 09:44 AMdefeinitely good to have you around marky good one
Posted by: luke.. at May 18, 2004 09:58 AMMy blogging habits tend to work in a cyclical nature. But, like the Woebot man, it's easy for me to justify taking a long rest when idiots keep taking pot shots. Look me up on Technorati, scroll down a few entries and you'll find out what and who pissed me off - though I was cheered up somewhat by Siobhan's nice comments on Glueboot.
It sets off a depression in my mind which is usually very brief. Nevertheless I'm sure the Naked Maja will be back before, ooh, the end of the week... ;-) I can't shake off the old Protestant work ethic of "not letting my readers down" - all 18 of them, anyway...
Posted by: "David Bowie" at May 18, 2004 11:12 AMCongratulations Mark! But mere congratulations seem inadequate; I can hardly imagine blogging now without k-punk as a source of inspiration (not to mention a source of referrals!) And I've appreciated the online friendship immensely too.
Posted by: Angus at May 18, 2004 01:01 PMAs someone else who started blogging on the back of reading k-punk, can I also wish you a very happy blog-birthday! Congratulations.
Posted by: Tim at May 18, 2004 01:03 PMWell, thanks one and all.... I think this thread amply vindicates the sentiments in the orgininal post!
Posted by: mark k-punk at May 18, 2004 06:08 PMA year? Whippersnapper! ;)
What I like best about k-punk is its great reasonableness - long may it run.
Posted by: Tom at May 18, 2004 06:40 PMWhat you all seem to be forgetting is the existence of the ur-k-punk, the now lost and lamented j-punk (think your sequential shennanigans fooled me Fisher? Think again)... I started j-punk almost exactly two years ago, and brought the project to a close exactly one year later. During its life-span there were great flurries of posts, and echoing gaps... and every word has been reproduced here, a year on... with one or two inexplicable word substitutions.
Posted by: Philip at May 18, 2004 07:03 PMBut you're forgetting i-punk, which I started!
Posted by: adrian gargett at May 18, 2004 07:18 PMsimply my favorite blog ... happy anniversary and best wishes.

Posted by: Reza at May 19, 2004 04:39 AMHappy Birthday big boy! (Does this mean that if you have a blog you get two birthdays, like the queen? Fantastic! That means I get 4!)
Posted by: oliver at May 19, 2004 11:56 AMKurt-Cobunk he is, we call him sometimes
K-spunk, k-bunk, k-funk, k-dunk.
K-hunk, says Ness, k-hunky chunks of wordly goodness.
Infrequently rhyming.
Happy Birthday too yoo.
