Eccleston confirmed as New Doctor Who

....And you saw it speculated upon here first .... I like Eccleston; he can have a real edge and intensity. What I worry about is his doing one of his 'posh' accents (a la 28 Days Later and The Others); he is always painfully unconvincing when attempting this. But I suppose the possibility of his doing the Doctor in broad Salford is uh somewhat small...

I can't see him making a success of it: there is the matter of his covert donations to New Labour to consider.

I'm still hopeful, he's a good actor, Eccleston. He was really good in The Second Coming.

There seems little doubt to me that he'll make at the very least an interesting job of it. It seems in many ways a hearteningly surprising choice; i.e. he's no known 'eccentric'. We will not know quite what to expect with his portrayal, as CE is a thoughtful, committed actor... Whereas with R.E. Grant et al, well, one could visualise right now the ticks, jibes and mannerisms...
